Salem, Oregon (Nov. 2, 2015) –White Oak Construction (WOC) will start collecting toys now through Dec. 17  for the Salem Police Department’s (SPD) Annual Toy Drive.  Unwrapped toys for children of all ages can be dropped off at their office at 2455 River RD S during regular business hours.

The Salem Police Toy Drive got its start as a result of a tragedy in December 1986. A school liaison officer responded to an incident found, in the belongings of the deceased, a Christmas wish list written by the young daughter of the victim. A collection was taken by SPD members to fill the wish list. This was the beginning of the annual toy drive.

Project manager, Dan Wellert, who also serves on the board of directors of the Salem Police Foundation said, “The holidays can be especially difficult for children in need.  This is one way we all can help.  Our office is right on River Road and people pass it every day on the way to work or the gym.  I encourage people to stop by and drop of a gift for a child.”

Unwrapped, new toys for children of any age are accepted.  The SPD will then distribute them to needy children in our community. Call White Oak Construction at 503-588-3081 or visit www.WhiteOakConstruction.net for more information.
